Khan Market Body May Sue Salman Khan Over Shopping Portal Name

Khan Market Body May Sue Salman Khan Over Shopping Portal Name

The traders association of Khan Market in the national capital is contemplating legal action against Bollywood actor Salman Khan for an alleged "trademark infringement" by naming his online shopping portal khanmarketonline.com after the posh market.

"We have objection to the name of his portal as Khan Market is a renowned entity known not only in India but across the world. This portal is misusing our market's name and hence amounts to trademark infringement," said Sanjiv Mehra, president of Khan Market Traders' Association.

"Khan Market is a global brand, people across the globe know it by this name. Salman Khan should have taken us into confidence before using the market's name for his portal.

"The courts in Delhi are closed right now. Meanwhile, we are seeking legal advice on the issue. We may approach the actor and ask him to change the portal's name. If he doesn't agree then we will take the legal route," he added.

Salman Khan had unveiled the shopping portal on his 50th birthday on December 27.

"A gift for my fans. http://www.KhanMarketOnline.Com register now for a special treat. And lots more to come," he had posted on Twitter.

Though the portal is yet to become operational, potential customers can register on the site.

The traders body said that Salman's portal will not only leave shoppers confused but also add to the woes of the shopkeepers in the 65-year-old market that has 156 shops and 35 restaurants.

"If his portal announces discount on a product, people will approach us thinking that the discount is being offered by us. It will leave our customers confused and create problems for us," Mr Mehra said.

I will gift Salman Khan a bride on his birthday, says Deepika Padukone

Salman Khan and Deepika Padukone

Salman Khan will soon join the league of Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan and be an active member of the 50 club. While Aamir and SRK have already celebrated their golden jubilee year, Salman is turning 50 on December 27 this year. And guess what? Deepika Padukone has a special gift she wants to give Sallu miyaan on his birthday.
What's it? Deepika smiles, "I will gift him a bride now." Knowing that Salman was shying away from marriage for his legal troubles, the recent judgement ruled in his favour has already changed the setting. There have been recent reports of Salman getting married sometime soon in 2016.
Deepika and Salman who have been one of the most loved jodis on everybody's wishlist have never teamed up before and although there were rumours that Dippy might star in Sultan, she rubbished all such claims. "I don't like talking about films I am approached for unless I have given it a thought of doing. So no, I am not a part of Sultan at all."
Nevertheless, we definitely loved the gift that Deepika plans to give Salman on his birthday. After all, even his fans want to see Salman married now.

Maha to decide by Monday if state will appeal against Salman Khan's acquittal

A day after Bombay High Court acquitted Bollywood star Salman Khan of all charges in the 2002 hit-and-run case, Maharashtra's Minister of State for Home Ram Shinde on Friday said that the decision on filing an appeal against the order will be taken by Monday.
"We have not yet decided whether to approach the Supreme Court. If the Law and Judiciary department feels after reading the judgment that there are lapses, we will appeal against the High Court verdict," Shinde told PTI.

"We expect to take a decision by Monday," he added.
The Bombay High Court on Thursday overturned the trial court order which had sentenced Salman Khan to five years in jail for ramming his SUV into a shop in suburban Bandra on 28 September, 2002, killing one person and injuring four.
The HC held that the prosecution failed to prove "beyond reasonable doubt" that the actor was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Meanwhile, those injured in the hit-and-run are demanding justice and compensation.
"We have waited for 13 long years to receive justice and finally Salman was acquitted. If the court had to pronounce a judgement in his favour it could have done so many years back. What was the point in making us wait for so many years," said Abdulla, a survivor.
"I was injured, I broke my leg. I have small children but I cannot work because of my injuries. How do I earn and make my children eat?" he asked.
Reshma, the wife of one of the victims, Abdul Sheikh, said, "The court should also have thought about us...Salman Khan should give us sustenance allowance and compensation."
Salman Khan has already deposited Rs 19 lakh in the Bombay High Court registry to be given to the victims of the mishap as compensation following a court directive on a PIL.

5-year sentence correct for Salman Khan, Prosecution tells Bombay High Court

Salman Khan

Prosecution in the 2002 hit-and-run case involving Bollywood star Salman Khan on Thursday informed the Bombay High Court that the trail court conviction, handing five-year sentence to the actor was correct and the case was proved beyond any doubt.
Public prosecutor Sandeep Shinde asked the court to not show any leniency towards the convicted actor and uphold the sentence awarded to him in May this year by a sessions court for ramming his car into a shop in Bandra, killing one person and injuring four others. Khan was convicted for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Justice AR Joshi is presently hearing the actor's appeal against the conviction order. Shinde and prosecutor Purnima Kantharia in their arguments said the actor was drunk at the time of the incident and was smelling of alcohol even when he was brought to the hospital for medical check-up the next day.
Further, it discarded the defence theory that Salman's driver Ashok Singh was driving the car at the time of the accident and that he had lost control of the vehicle after its tyre burst. It argued that the tyre burst was only after the car climbed the steps of the bakery.
It also refuted the claim of the defence that there were four persons in the car and Khan was not driving the vehicle. Relying on testimony of the injured and other circumstantial evidence the prosecution argued that Khan was behind the wheel at the time of the incident.
Khan has been convicted under charges of drunk and driving and causing death of one person and injuring three others in 2002. He has been sentenced to suffer five years imprisonment and is presently out on bail granted by the high court.
